Upon arrival at the airport . . . all electronic devices are to be submitted for checkup at the immigration section.
These devices include cellular phones with camera and memory card, flash disks, external hard drives, laptops, notebook computers, iPods, and MP3 players with memory cards.
. . . Saudi immigration authorities use a special device to scan all the contents of the devices and record them to the main scanning computer.
Devices found to contain pornographic items or pirated software are confiscated immediately.
No fine would be charged for the violation but refusal to surrender the device would lead to arrest or deportation . . .

Hello.
It is very much imperative for these organizations conducting the Pre-departure Orientation Seminar to provide the departing workers with informations regarding recent changes taking place. Unfortunately, this is not what is happening. Responsible persons who conduct the seminar are confined with the old basic informations.
During the PDOS, it is emphasized though that elicit/pornographic materials are strictly prohibited in KSA. However it is not explained that tightened security measures and new elicit detection devices are now being used to crack down foreign workers bringing in such materials.
As what I came to know, the inventor of this special device is a Filipino. Who ever he is, I salute him for this innovative invention.
We just have to be responsible and know what are the DOs and DONTs of the country where we are heading then everything will be fine. Sad to say, there are some fellows who still violate these simple rules.

Hello nurseidol, I have long been thinking about carrying my own laptop to the kingdom but hesitant on the other hand because of the fact that we all know that it is a conservative country. I didn't exactly know how they define porn - if simple skin exposure for them is porn already.. I have installed programs on my laptop which includes nursing reviewers, procedures, facts ofcourse regarding nursing which i think will help me refresh my knowledge since this is also my first clinical exposure. They are in a form of word and powerpoint. I also have pictures ofcourse and videos which i keep for remembrance but no "porn" stored on it. Will this be allowed? what do you think? will it took long for them to take a look at it? Carrying a book with me is too heavy, and it will for sure eat up my space on my limited 20 kls baggage. Please let me know about this. Thanks so much
