Young urged to consider nursing
Young people should think about a career in nursing in order to avoid a "recruitment crisis", union leaders have urged.

Almost 200,000 nurses are due to retire in the next decade which could cause problems unless more young people consider it as a career, said the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

A poll for the union - of more than 8,600 seven to 17-year-olds - found that only one in 20 thought nursing was the right profession for them.

While "helping people" was one of the most important factors in choosing a career, nursing was the least preferred public sector job, falling behind police officer, teacher, doctor and firefighter.
