Discuss everything about working as a nurse in U.K. here. Discuss requirements, immigration matters, working conditions and the like.
hi there fellow nurses, just want to share some stories i learned from other fellow nurses. My relative used to work in a local hospital before he worked in Kuwait. After finishing his contract, he went back to the Philippines and was offered a job in United Kingdom particularly in Norwich. There he works as a staff nurse nad he is now happily married to a pinay nurse and they have a child. He offered me his place where I can stay if ever I would go there.
Last year around March, my college friend (she's an under board nurse grad) invited me to join her attend a free seminar to get to London. You know, those Live, Study and Work in London in 90 days. The seminar was free, and all courses were accepted. Then we learned that they offer a consultation fee, (that time its 53 thousand pesos) and they will help you accomplish the papers needed. They said you will enroll in a private school and you would easily get jobs in nursing homes, and later on when you finish the course, you could apply for license in NMC, its like PRC here or NCLEX in US.
We agreed that she will pay and I will just process it by myself, can;t imagine myself paying 53thousand just to accomplish papers. Anyway, my friend was accepted, she arrived to London in March 2009. I wasn;t able to go there, but when I talk to her, she is regretful of what happened. Because she goes to school, (easy) but the promise that jobs are abundant on that place and you can easily earn a lot to save and send back home was baloney. She can't sue the consultation office, and she is bound to finish her studies. Since recession is also felt in London, she and other fellow pinoys who landed to London hoping for a job are bound to work on odd jobs: house sitting, private nurse job, housekeeping.
So, if you are a nurse with IELTS and experience, better find an agency which will help you work and enter UK with WORKING VISA. Those student visa may work if you are humble enough to do odd jobs and if you have relatives there who could help you get into hospitals or carehomes with direct hires.
That's all for now.
